Tickled!
If someone asked me what's lacking in Indonesia's fashion scene, I would say that we lack a sense of humor - of which, is needed to produce things that are quirky and kitschy. I think that most Indonesian fashion designers tend to go for the edgy and cool and minimalistic - which is nothing wrong or bad, but it can get boring sometimes. My eyes are hungry for things that tickle my brain - in a funny and appealing way. I think we need to have (more) designers that are fun, bold, and brave enough to almost reach that "tacky and lame" stage - but twist it in an elegant way.
Today I finally found (and bought) things at Cosmogirl Festival that fulfill my love for quirky and kitschy things. Thank you, God! :D

Quote of The Day
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd.
The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has even been before”
– Albert Einstein
Inspiration. The process of being mentally stimulated . To create something large(r), or meaningful. I live for inspirations, for inspirations are what move us from good to better, from better to richer in mind. Inspirations come any second. At the most unexpected situations. Random, the timing might be, but inspirations will only come with an open mind and a big heart. A mind that is willing to see and accept newness and even ugliness, so that the most irrelevant object becomes relevant, and becomes an idea that is grand and pleasant it so much touches our hearts.
And so I travel. To places I like and I imagine I will dislike. To see what’s out there. To witness how a society defines life in their own magical ways. And to eventually fall in love – with the notion that life itself is an inspiration, lived in so many different ways. Every smile is followed by a different pair of eyes – how they look into yours, don’t they make you wonder what’s behind? And every pair of legs you see walking on the street, they carry an interesting story that can be intriguing – or not, but nevertheless, adds an inch of idea to your brilliant mind.
And with me, is my travelling companion, the most loyal and timeless one. Her name is Passion, my LV trunk. Inside Passion, are my stories, laid on top of papers, visualized through sketches, colored by markers or crayons. And books. And ribbons and fabric samples. And shoes I collect from every market I visit. My trunk is a reality depiction of my senses. The magic big leather box where I store the inspirations I seek and find on the roads less and much travelled. In a compartment down under, you will find stacks of photo albums. Inside, are photos of eyes and smiles and legs I come across. Photos of life and how it is lived in different places, so I can revisit them later as the richest source of inspiration.
Did you know? The best shoes are not just those with great style and comfort. But those which carry a story. So that you can pass on a message to the wearer, and the wearer can help you spread the story to others. That’s how great stories are created, you see? From little stories passed from one to another as inspiration. So is Passion, my LV trunk. Passion itself is a story, because it has experienced different places and different weathers with me. No matter how difficult the road, it survives. And together, we create inspiration for others.

PS: Thank you for the opportunity, AMICA! This was an interesting feature. Together with Cindy Biantoro, Ario Achda & Syahmedi Dean, we were asked to write a story about Louis Vuitton trunks. Above was my take, although in the magazine you will read the translated version...yay! :)

Two Cents & A Million Smiles
This is something I've been observing:
The public always assumes that they can say anything about a public figure. They think that when you're a public figure, you just got to accept that the public will evaluate / criticize you - and the public likes it that way.
BUT, when a public figure responds to what has been said by the public, the public forms a perception that the public figure is "defensive" or "can't take criticism" or "lame for even bothering a minor comment", while in fact, the public figure just wants to have a say too - because every human has the right to.
Fact is: you didn't like it when you got criticized back. You didn't see it coming. Now let me tell you, that THAT's how it feels.
So, before you criticize someone, just accept that that someone might respond or criticize back. CRITICISM WORKS BOTH WAYS. Don't think that this world is yours to say only.
Public or public figure - oh come on, we're all humans with feelings.
